FACTS

Discretion, serenity, peace - Geneve rays stability and security. This is what the second largest city of Switzerland has to convey, nevertheless 35% of world's private assets are managed here.

There are not too many natives living in the Rohne-City, only 55% of the population is from Geneva origin. Therefor 45% moved here to work for one of the many international organisations. This was a great benefit for the World Wide Web which ought to optimize the communication among CERNs professors.

It was a hard battle from caesar's "De Bello Gallico", where Geneva was mentioned for the first time, to the geneven conventions: the "Mouthwash", translation of Geneva, used to be the capital of the celtic allobrogs. In 1781 a democracy was founded but shatterd the year after by Bernian-Savoyian troops. Geneva was occupied by the French in 1789 and became a part of Switzerland 16 years later.

Multi-cultural Geneva is a cosmopolitan city in every aspect: intermediate storage for art is held by the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Rolex has its headquarters right in town. Whoever lives here only gets the best from all nations.

INSIDER TIP

In vino veritas: in this case the truth lies in the Geneva surroundings. Everybody is welcome to swivel a glas of award-winning wines, to smell the bouquet and of course taste the wine at one of the numerous vineyards.

For example at the great vineyard of Bernard and Anne Conne in Peissy, where the wine cellar from the 17th century creates a unique atmosphere. It seems like the old walls burst of stories about wine tasting.
Route de Credery 11, Tel.: 753 22 16

The Schtrumps building
Fun to look at is the appartment complex at the "Le Grottes" quarter. The building was built by three (drunk?) architects, who simply wanted to create an eye-catcher by assimilating complete different designs to the house. The architects definitly integrated some jamboree yet in total the building reminds of a 3-D picture: the longer you stare, the more details appear.

EAT & DRINK

Dim Sum mixed with creative varieties of roasted potatoes on Paella, seasoned with herbs of Provence, enriched with humus and falafel: of course you don't have to eat all that together, but Geneva offers almost everything.

Luckily are the times over when the citizens had to ingest simple food which wasn't spoiled by any civilisation. The "pleasure asceticism" of the culinary capital of Switzerland only becomes noticeable by traditional dishes: now and then "Bread soup" or "Longeole" (pork sausage with fennel and caraway) are offered.

La Bourse
The representativ Brasserie in Parisian style presents itself cozy and a little cramped, under damped light tasteful dishes from three countries are served: Pizza and Pasta, Fondue (€ 14,–) and clams. A fourth country tries to be inconspicuous on the map: the surprised guest can also order Sauerkraut.

Restaurant de l`Ile Rousseau
This restaurant follows the 3 main rules in business and gastronomy: location, location, location! The guest can enjoy a marvellous panoramic view over the river, the terrace is spiced up by lots of green, the food is quite international: Lasagne, tapas and Créme Brûlée. A 3-course menu is about € 24,- - a price that you’re more than welcome to pay for this amazing landscape. Ile Rousseau, Tel.: 310 75 98

Le Bearn
They offer modern French cuisine and truffle- specialities of any kind, in this quite expensive yet recommendable restaurant. For business diners quite suitable but the romantic flair is missing! Quai de la Poste 4, Tel.: 321 00 28

SOUVENIRS

There is no way to leave this country without buying a clock, preferably a Kuckucks clock. Or at least a swiss army knife that has reasonable 1000 functions.

Watches, clocks and penknives can be found on "Rue du Rhone" and the surrounded areas but also at "Corraterie" in center city.

Come Prima
