FACTS

No where else in the USA, the American dream seams closer than in New York: From the dishwasher to the millionaire- a dream, alike for Americans and immigrants. All those people, keen on success, make up this vibrating, charming and diverse city.

Everyone who has lived in New York knows this feeling that comes back everytime  when you leave the plane: The tickling in the stomach, the unique life-style of the city. New York is full of energy, high expectations and deep disappointments, idealistic and crucial alike. A small flat in Manhattan is the same price as a huge villa elsewhere in the USA. But still the city attracts them all: Celebrities from Hollywood, taxi drivers from Pakistan, junior lawyers from established American families, performance-artists from Eastern Europe, blew-eyed students from Iowa, tourists from Europe. The list is never-ending as New York is the only real metropolis: 170 languages, any immigration group is large enough for their own microcosm with restaurants, sport clubs and baby groups. Somewhere down the road, those small worlds cross, get closer, mix, simply live together. 24 hours a day, 365 days a year- that is New York, the city that never sleeps.

NIGHTLIFE

Be aware of the offer: There is so much going on in New York, that you almost desperate when reading about all the events in the city newspapers Time Out New York or Village Voice.

The famous lines of the author Tom Wolfe explain it perfectly: "Culture just seems to be in the air, like part of the weather". From a dizzy punk bar to posh scene clubs, from run-down theatres to expensive musicals on Broadway- you will find everything. Be aware that almost all clubs are over 21. Bouncers do a strict selection, it might help to be pretty, female and nicely dressed. Since 2003, there has been "no smoking" in public buildings, bars and restaurants.
New York bars and clubs change very quickly, as the restaurants do: one week a club with champagne for proms of pop, next week a flop.
